Crowns

A crown is a permanent covering that fits over an original tooth that is either decayed, damaged or cracked. Crowns are made of a variety of different materials such as porcelain, gold, or a mix of these materials. Porcelain generally has the most natural appearance.

Dr. Wondra can usually fabricate a CEREC “one visit” crown in our Rio Rancho dental office, however in certain circumstances, it may need to be fabricated by a dental lab.

Once the procedure is completed, proper dental hygiene by our Rio Rancho patients, including regular visits to the dental office and daily brushing and flossing, is required to maintain healthy, bacteria-free teeth, gums and crowns. This helps in the prevention of gum disease.

Bridges

A bridge is a dental device that fills a space that a tooth previously occupied. A bridge may be necessary to prevent shifting of the teeth that can lead to bite problems (occlusion) and/or jaw problems and resultant periodontal disease.   Bridges from our Rio Rancho dental team safeguard the integrity of existing teeth and help maintain a healthy, vibrant smile.

Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene is the practice of keeping one’s oral cavity clean and free of disease and other problems by regular brushing and flossing and regular visits to your dentist.  Our office sees patients of all ages and will schedule you a dental hygiene appointment at our Rio Rancho general dentistry office based on your individual needs.  Depending on your oral health, a 3, 4 or 6 month recall will be recommended.

Tooth Extractions

Sometimes patients present with teeth that need to be removed. Severely broken, decayed teeth can sometimes cause serious infections that can damage underlying and surrounding teeth.

To potentially stave off this result, the extraction of these teeth may be advised. Dr. Wondra can give you the various options available to replace missing teeth.

Root Canal

A root canal is a procedure that extracts decayed pulp from the central part of the tooth, reshapes the canal and replaces it with strengthening filler.

A cavity is the result of superficial decay of the enamel of the tooth. Left long enough, this decay can burrow into the deeper reaches of the tooth, causing extensive damage to tooth structure. When the damage goes beyond what can be treated with a filling, dentists can perform a root canal (or endodontics), preserving the tooth and retaining its original integrity; thereby, saving a tooth that in the past would have to have been pulled.

A bridge is a dental device that fills a space that a tooth previously occupied. In some instances, a bridge may be necessary to prevent shifting of the teeth that can lead to bite problems (occlusion) and/or jaw problems and resultant periodontal disease.

Bridges at Rio Rancho’s Wondra Dental

There are three main types of Dental Bridges:

1

Fixed Bridge

This is the most popular and consists of a filler tooth that is attached to two crowns, which fit over the existing teeth and hold the bridge in place.

2

The "Maryland" Bridge

Commonly used to replace missing front teeth and consists of a filler that is attached to metal bands that are bonded to the abutment teeth. The metal bands consist of a white-colored composite resin that matches existing tooth color.

3

Cantilever Bridge

Often used when there are teeth on only one side of the span. A typical three-unit cantilever bridge consists of two crowned teeth positioned next to each other on the same side of the missing tooth space. The filler tooth is then connected to the two crowned teeth, which extend into the missing tooth space or end.

Dental Implants at Wondra Dental

Benefits of Dental Implants

Implants won't slip or shift in your mouth.  Implants feel more natural than removable partial or conventional complete dentures because of their secure fit.

Are Dental Implants an option for you?

Dental implants are posts surgically placed into the upper or lower jawbone.  They replace one or more teeth that are next to each other.  Implants from our Rio Rancho general dentistry practice are an effective way to replace missing natural teeth.  When teeth are lost because of disease or an accident, dental implants may be a good option.

People may choose implants to replace a single tooth, more than one tooth, or to support a full set of dentures.

Dental implants are made of titanium (a strong, lightweight metal) and other materials.  Millions of implants are placed by dentists every year in the United States, which makes them a very common and popular option for replacing teeth.

Single Tooth Implant

A single tooth implant replaces the missing tooth's roots.  It is a stand-alone unit and does not involve treating the teeth next to it.

Implant-Supported Bridge

An implant-supported bridge replaces the lost natural teeth and some of the tooth roots when more than one tooth is missing. Unlike traditional bridges, an implant-supported bridge does not need support from the teeth next to it.

Implant-Supported Denture

If you are missing all of your teeth, an implant-supported denture can replace the missing teeth and some of the tooth roots.  Because the bone in your jaw actually grows around the implants, an implant-supported denture tends to be comfortable and stable.  This allows you to bite and chew naturally.
